Mooi Hawens hosts fun-filled Tabor Christmas Market [Pictures]

The market, which helps raise funds for various projects on the property, went so well that organisers are looking to expand.

THERE was plenty of delicious food, stalls to browse through and raffles to be won at Residential Mooi Hawens’ recent Tabor Christmas Market.

Residentia Mooi Hawens’ Mariza Kitching said markets are held to help raise funds for various projects. “We aim to have markets twice a year; mid-year and year-end. Our Christmas market went very well, and we intend to expand more next time,” she said.

Stallholders were residents, as well as members of the community. There were tables with food, including pancakes, homemade Christmas cakes, rusks, loaves of bread, biltong, cookies, vetkoek, jams, aromatic curry as well as jewellery for sale. Stallholders were also selling second-hand items, such as books, plants, frames and pictures, knitted dolls, clothing and more.

There were two flower arrangements that were raffled on the day. Kitching said one was in aid of their library, to buy new books, while the other was to raise funds for a water feature that will be placed at the Tabor entrance.

“A big thank you to all the residents who worked so hard to prepare items for the market, the community who supported us, the service and commitment of our volunteers, the staff involved to ensure the success of the event, as well Elize Pelser, who organised it. A thank you also goes to those who support Residentia Mooi Hawens and our residents, unconditionally,” she said.

On November 20, at 14:00, singer Chris Coetzer, sponsored by Avbob, will be performing in the Tabor Hall. Entrance is free.

Kitching, who is a social worker at the organisation, also reminds the community about their Alzheimer’s support group for family members of persons living with dementia that takes place every third Wednesday of the month, at 10:00. For more information, contact her on 082 462 8025.
