[WATCH] Umgababa rapper turns challenges into melodies

He raps in English and isiZulu.

Up and coming rapper, 21-year-old Thabiso Luthuli,  took an interest in music at the age of 13 and has never looked back.  He takes inspiration from the challenges that life has thrown at him and turns it into an incredible melody.  He quickly learnt how to produce his own beats and has created a few songs already. He raps in English and isiZulu.

“At a young age, I listened to Eminem and I decided to use the ups and downs of my life as inspiration for music. I start of by creating a beat and melody and the hook just forms itself. I try to record at least once a week and it takes about two days to form a complete song. When I was younger I performed at school talent shows and I think that’s how my confidence grew.”

Thabiso goes by the stage name, Ice Cream, because everyone likes him and his music.

“I am confident that I will make it big one day, I just need an opportunity to grow my talent. Music has become my whole life. I hope that it motivates others the same way it has motivated me. I unleash my emotions through music and it is the one time I feel completely free.” In the future, the Umgababa youngster hopes to produce a music video to be featured on local music channels. “I am incredibly thankful to my parents for instilling good morals in me and supporting my passion, and to my manager, Skumbuzo Ngubane, for discovering me and allowing me to record in his studio.”
