Amanzimtoti artist takes inspiration from life

Her beautiful paintings have also become very popular with art collectors.

Local artist, Marie Kachelhoffer has developed a distinctive style that showcases modern designs and striking paintings with vibrant colours. The passionate painter is a member of the Upper South Coast Art Association and began painting in 1989.

Art has always been a hobby of hers and she recalled sketching pictures of her teachers when she was in school. However, since her recent retirement, Marie decided to take her talents to the next level.

Speaking to the SUN, the talented artist said, “Ever since I joined the art association, I was inspired again. It is always nice to build on other artists and create your own unique pieces. I especially love painting animals, but I tend to not keep to their natural colours. I also love painting plants and the sea.”

The 63-year-old has been featured in the South African Artists magazine, Art in the Park and both Pietersmaritzburg and Hilton Arts Festival. Her beautiful paintings have also become very popular with art collectors.

“I enjoy using fluid acrylics and inks to work with, it makes the process easier. It is also important to join an art association as it helps you to continue learning. My message to up and coming artists is to be creative and try new ideas,” she added.
