Getting to know Scottburgh

Scottburgh is so much more than a tourist hot-spot along the KZN coast. In this guide, we showcase why property for sale in Scottburgh has become sought after for some many South Africans. Boasting some incredible facilities without losing its charming appeal, Scottburgh is a true South Coast gem.

Scottburgh has become well known for its endless beaches and boasts central placement on the “golf coast”, meaning that it is a popular option when it comes to property for sale on the South Coast.

For many years, Scottburgh has been a tourist hotspot in the region, and is found roughly 60km outside of the Durban CBD. Historically, it was the first township that was established south of Durban and was used as a port for many of the sugar mills.

It has since evolved into a bustling area that attracts numerous visitors each year – with the main beach boasting grass banks that are perfect for family picnics, while Back Beach is known for its rock pools and snorkelling opportunities.

The nearby Aliwal Shoal attracts scuba divers from around the country, with charters hitting the waters daily from outside of the Cutty Sark Hotel.

During the annual sardine run, fishermen descend on the area with fishing gear at the ready to try their luck at landing a big catch. In this period, they are not the only ones looking to cash in on the excitement, as there are sea birds and game fish that also want to make the most of the presence of all the sardines.

Despite the immense popularity, Scottburgh has still managed to maintain its small-town charm – even though the area has its own shopping mall, medical facilities and major hotels.

Added to this, the TC Robertson Nature Reserve caters for bird viewing and nature lovers, while there are also pre-primary, primary and high school options for families.

Whether you are looking for somewhere that offers old-school values with modern facilities, or just an ideal holiday home spot on the KZN coast, Scottburgh is an option worth checking out.
