Bargains galore on offer at fete
The public is invited to join in and dress up as hippies, as the theme for this year's fete is ‘Old Hippies Rock’.
Poinsettia Park hosts its annual fete and arts and crafts market on Saturday, 7 July from 8am to noon. Children are welcome to join in the fun, which includes handcrafts, toys, odds and ends, cakes, a tea garden, books, gifts, plants, games, tombola, preserves, pancakes, CDs and DVDs on sale.
“If any art and crafters would like to have a stall at our fete, they can contact me on 031-904-2079 or 082-718-5026 or email proawofta@telkomsa.net,” said Poinsettia Park manager of community services, Wendy Lloyd.
“This year we will also have pony rides, a jumping castle and face-painting for the young ones, plus their all-time favourite, the lucky dips, and a mini kiddies tea garden, with ice cream and candy floss. For the oldies, there will be entertainment such as line dancing, an exercise group and singer Belinda Dolphin.
“We invite the public to join in and dress up as hippies, as our theme this year is ‘Old Hippies Rock’. Last year we had requests from the public asking us to advertise the theme and make it known that supporters are more than welcome to join in the fun and come dressed in the theme.

“Come and join us for something delicious to eat, as we will have toasted sandwiches, boerewors and bacon rolls, curry and rice, and a cake stall selling delicious home-baked cakes. Don’t forget to buy some delicious homemade ginger beer, marmalades, jams and biscuits.”
Poinsettia Park residents have been hard at work, producing beautiful handmade and hand sewn items such as handbags, children’s clothing, knitted and crochet goods, jewellery, beadwork and glassware. There is even a stall selling tools and odds and ends for the men to browse through. Extra parking on the day will be available at the Good Shepherd Church next door to Poinsettia Park.

“The funds raised are used for the upgrading of the home or for the maintenance and upkeep. A great deal of time and effort is put into the planning and orchestrating of this yearly event, so we hope the Toti public will come out in their droves to support us,” said Wendy.
