Support local crafters at Clansthal fundraising market

The next craft market will be held on Sunday, 10 June between 9am and 2pm in Clansthal.

Enterprising Clansthal residents Keith and Liz Cunningham are the driving force behind the quarterly craft markets held in the gardens of their home.

The craft market is the main fundraising activity to collect funds to support specific conservation initiatives. The conservancy was formed in 2004 with the aim of monitoring developments and looking after the KZN coastal town of Clansthal.

“The funds raised are used to arrange volunteers and hire casual labour on an ad hoc basis to remove weeds on verges, maintain the public car park, clean beaches and eradicate water lettuce in the river estuary,” said Keith, who is the chairman of the conservancy. “Our efforts have been recognised and we are delighted to have received the Metro award for sustainability in environmental practices in Clansthal.”

Market founder and convener, Liz Cunningham said the craft market concept was started in April 2014, with 16 markets held to date. “Stall holders are local crafters and those from further afield in KZN. Forty different traders participate, and every effort is made to ensure a wide variety of crafts, clothing, jewellery and refreshments are on offer. Traders supply their own gazebo, tables, chairs and so on.”

The next craft market is on Sunday, 10 June between 9am and 2pm and the venue is 111 Pig and Whistle Drive, Clansthal. For more information, call Liz on 083-556-8108, or visit the website www.clansthalconservancy.org.za.
