Recipe for hot cross bun spread

Try this spread with your hot cross buns this Easter.

There are so many ways you can enjoy your hot cross buns this Easter. One way is a delicious spread. Spar has supplied a quick and easy way to make your own spread.

Ingredients (Serves 8)

250 ml cream
50 ml butter
250 ml brown sugar
6 marshmallow Easter eggs, roughly broken into pieces
2 ml almond essence (or 5 ml brandy)

Method

In a heavy-based saucepan, warm the cream, butter and sugar together over low heat, stirring constantly until it reaches boiling point. Simmer steadily for 5 minutes.
Off the heat, add in the Easter eggs and essence, stirring to a smooth sauce.
Set aside to cool before using.

Hints and Tips

Refrigeration causes this spread to thicken too much for easy spreading, so rather store it covered in a cool place in the kitchen.
