FRIDAY, 7 JULY: Probus Amanzimtoti social club meets at 9.30am for 10am in Umbogavango Nature Reserve’s safe, beautiful and tranquil surroundings in Umbogintwini. An interesting speaker will be provided for members’ enjoyment and for the bring-and-braai after the meeting, members are asked to remember to take along their own cups, meat, salads and preferred refreshments. Those keen to attend should call Sharon-Ann Theron during working hours on 083-312-5360.

 

FRIDAYS, 7, 14 and 21 JULY: Toti Bowling Club (next to Lords and Legends) holds a family bowls morning from 8.30am on Fridays in the July school holidays. Visitors and non-bowlers are welcome to try the new B20 cricket-bowls format, which is a fun game for the whole family from teenagers to grandparents. Cost is R20 per person and food will be available. A loan of bowls will be arranged. Just wear smooth-soled shoes. Booking is essential by Wednesday, 5 July on 031-903-3857.

 

SUNDAY, 9 JULY: Rhodesia Association of South Africa incorporating the Flame Lily Foundation holds its annual Rhodes and Founders sadza and vellies get-together at Musketeers/German Club, 7 Barham Road, Westville from 11am. This is an open invitation to all Rhodesians, young and old, to join in. There will be an annual vellie drinking competition, so those who will enter should take along their vellies. For R30 entry per adult the association supplies the braai fire, sadza and gravy. Live music will also be provided. Take your own meat and perhaps a salad to share. There will be limited meat available to purchase. There is a cash bar, so no refreshments allowed. Call Jill de Beer on 083-449-8422 if you will attend, to allow for catering purposes.

 

SUNDAY, 9 JULY: A full moon beach walk from Warner Beach (Baggies) to Winkle and back starts at 5.30pm. Join to celebrate the beautiful Sapphire Coast beach. You don’t need to be super fit – everyone walks at their own pace. Children welcome, and dogs on leads. Take along a torch and jacket. Enquiries Yvonne on 074-190-0949.

 

WEDNESDAY, 12 JULY: Kingsway cancer group meets at Kingsway Hospital in the oncology ward waiting room on the first floor from 4pm. This is an open group for cancer survivors, their carers and cancer patients on active treatment. Interested persons are welcome to share their personal experiences with the group and to discuss the positives of cancer and the various forms of treatment available.

WEDNESDAY, 19 JULY: South African Associations of Retired Persons (SAARP) outing to the Marianhill Monastery leaves from the Toti Civic Centre by bus at 9.30am. The cost return is about R50 per person plus a voluntary donation to the centre. Members to call Megan on 082-555-1420 for final bookings (available on Whatsapp).

 

TUESDAY, 11 JULY: The next monthly meeting of Amanzimtoti Women’s Institute starts at 9.15am in the activities room next to Amanzimtoti Library. Visitors are most welcome. Enquiries, call Yvonne on 031-904-1942.

 

SATURDAY, 5 AUGUST: Jabulani senior citizens’ annual fete from 9am to 2pm where visitors can enjoy tombola, music from DJ Fluffy, delicious food on sale, dance-a-thon, pony rides, the Warner Beach Prep school choir, a coffee cafe, boerewors rolls, pancakes, jams, bric-a-brac, crafts, books and more. Entry is free.
