Gunshot victim found dead on N2 at Umgababa

The police found the man near his vehicle and called for paramedics.

A man with a gunshot wound was found dead on the N2 south near the Umgababa off-ramp on Saturday night, 1 July.

“Shortly before 8pm, paramedics were called to the N2 southbound for a man who had sustained a gunshot wound,” said Werner Vermaak of ER24.

It is understood the police noticed the vehicle on the side of the road and investigated. They found the man near his vehicle and called for paramedics.

He was declared dead at the scene. “When the paramedics departed the scene, they came across a pedestrian who was knocked down on the opposite side of the highway near the Umgababa off-ramp,” said Vermaak.

A 33-year-old man was found lying on the side of the road with multiple injuries.
He was treated at the scene for multiple fractures and abrasions, before he was transported to a nearby hospital.

The vehicle that apparently collided with the pedestrian was not found at the scene when paramedics arrived. The exact circumstances surrounding the two incidents are not yet known. Police attended both scenes and will investigate.
