Swansong for Toti funny man

Dusty has become a comedy whirwind on the South African circuit.

Toti funny man Dusty Rich is moving to Australia at the end of June to kickstart his international comedy career.

After leaving his hometown Toti for Gauteng in 2013, Dusty has become a comedy whirwind on the South African circuit.

He toured with Trevor Noah from 2012 to 2015 and featured as the host on Noah’s DVD ‘Nation Wild’.

He’s had his own half-hour special on TV’s Comedy Central and is currently booked to perform on the first-ever season of ‘Comedy Central Roast Battles’. Hundreds of thousands watched him perform on 2015’s ‘White Christmas’ comedy special which aired on MNET.

He’s headlined almost every stage on the national comedy circuit from Cape Town to Durban and is the resident host of the popular ‘Wednesdays at Parkers’.

“It isn’t a full immigration at this point, for now it’s an adventure to go international,” said Dusty.

“I’ve always found myself a more international-based comic as I’m more interested in a global approach to comedy then a local one. And now is the time I go do that.

Australia has a massive comedy circuit, but also three international comedy festivals.

It’s also a nice jumping off point for the rest of the world. Once I’ve toured the world for a few years, I’ll decide where I want to end up.”

Dusty will be based in Brisbane on the Australian East Coast. “There are good waves, the weather is like Durban and my wife will work there too. I’m not too stoked about the rugby team, but you can’t have everything.

I have a few gigs booked once I get there, but I know very little about the place, so I just want to feel it out, do a little exploring with a notebook and see what there is to see and absorb some of the culture.

I will definitely go surf the Gold Coast and plan a road trip to Sydney and Melbourne for a tour I have for later in the year. I plan to fly over to Perth for a while, before I have some interesting shows lined up in Hong Kong and Singapore.

Before heading Down Under Dusty will treat his Toti fans to one last epic comedy showdown for a little something to remember him by.

“It’s a closing chapter, the last flicks of the pages of the beginning of my career. I’m going on to do a lot of comedy and to explore and write about all of it. It’s a massive adventure and I want to give my fans, supporters, friends and all Durbanites as well as Amanzimtexans, a parting gift.”

Catch the funny man himself doing what he does best at the Durban Jewish Club on Wednesday, 15 June, accompanied by some of his favourite Durban comedians Darren Maule, Carvin Goldstone, Neil Green, Jem Atkins and Masood B.

It will be one last unforgettable ‘Dusty Rich showdown’ that will have you rolling in your seats.

The show starts at 8.30pm and tickets cost R150 or R120 for the early bird special at Computicket.
