Newly erected giant tree to host carols

Music will be supplied by a live band and the public is encouraged to bring along gifts.

Toti’s giant Christmas tree located at the southern end of the Toti promenade, next to the lagoon, is the rendezvous for the Durban South Business Forum’s (DSBF) ‘Light up a child’s life’ initiative in the form of a carols by treelight event on Saturday, 20 December at 7pm.

The newly erected 15-metre Christmas tree, arguably the tallest in KZN if not South Africa, is lit by a kilometre of LED lights, mounted on a cellphone tower base and secured by a 4.5-ton foundation and could easily be mistaken for a well-lit lighthouse.

“Music will be supplied by a live band and the public is encouraged to bring along gifts that will be donated to local service organisations for distribution to the less fortunate,” said SDBF president, Andre Beetge.

“Gifts and last minute Christmas purchases can also be done while browsing the promenade fleamarket from 3pm to 10pm. A portion of proceeds will be donated to the Pregnancy Resource Centre.”

Parking is available on Beach Road with pedestrian access to the promenade via Rogie’s Park, Stanley Jackson alley and the parking area next to Toti lagoon.
