Expect load shedding this weekend

Eskom has advised that power supply is under strain

The power system is extremely constrained today due to unforeseen technical
problems at power stations, depleted water reserves at Eskom’s peaking power
stations which use water to generate electricity and depleted diesel
reserves to fire up the open-cycle gas turbines.

As a result Eskom implemented stage one load shedding today between 1pm and
8pm. Load shedding will recommence again tomorrow and Sunday at 9am in order
to build up reserves for the week ahead. Eskom will update the public on the
status on an ongoing basis.

Eskom calls on consumers to switch off geysers, air conditioners, pool pumps
and all non-essential appliances throughout the day to limit the impact of
rotational load shedding. As workers leave office buildings this evening we
ask that they please switch off the lights, with the exception of security
lighting, and avoid leaving on air-conditioning overnight.

Eskom’s load shedding schedules are available for Eskom direct customers at
https://loadshedding.eskom.co.za/

Consumers can also contact the call centre on 08600-37566 for additional
information. Load shedding schedules will only be utilised for the duration
of the constraint and Eskom will provide regular updates on the status of
the power system.
