Inaugural stage show raises R8,000 for charity

Amanzimtoti Community Theatre (ACT) celebrated a successful first show called ‘A Tribute to Disney’, which helped raise funds for the South African touch rugby team, Project Rhino and Amanzimtoti SPCA.

It was the brainchild of director Mikhaila Wilson, who is also head of drama at Amanzimtoti High School, and featured 40 community members who gave up their time to raise funds for charity.

“On Thursday, 16 October we raised R2,000 for the women’s touch rugby team, on the Friday R3,100 for Project Rhino and the same for Toti SPCA on the Saturday,” she said.

“The support was a bit disappointing, but it was the first time we attempted this in the community, so it was not too bad. After the shows, we received a lot of compliments from people who said the standard was very high for a community project.”

Mikhaila hopes to makes this a bi-annual event, with the next one scheduled for June or July. “We hope it will grow and get bigger and bigger,” she said.

“Thank so much to Mikhaila and all who were involved at the ACT for the amazing production of ‘A Tribute to Disney’,” said Toti SPCA PRO, Michelle Hannan.

“It was truly amazing to see the wonderful talent we have here on the South Coast. Pamela Slater and I had an amazing time, which brought back a lot of personal memories for me of my favourite Disney movies growing up. Thank you and keep shinning bright Toti stars.”
