Court choir paves the way on Heritage Day

The talented Mabaso Choir can indeed take a bow, in acknowledgement of their talents as well as their example to the rest of society.

WITH the focus firmly on our young nation’s heritage this week, it’s wonderful to be able to highlight the inclusive approach being taken by colleagues at Amanzimtoti court.
Few things in life unite people as much as singing, and the combined effort of the colourful magistrate, clerks and security staff who have formed an impromptu choir, leaves one with a warm and fuzzy feeling.
They harmonise beautifully and watching them perform in three official languages, amid the eggshell-coloured offices of the dour government building, is sure to bring a smile to one’s face.
Meting out justice is a rigid and serious affair that leaves little room for creative expression. However, by sharing their ample talents and complementary voices, this talented quartet have introduced a rainbow of vocal inspiration in an otherwise colourless landscape.
Especially as South Africa celebrates its combined heritage, the inclusive efforts of these women should stand as a testimony of our nation’s ability to heal our divisive past through collectively working towards forging a united future. Happy Heritage Month, Amanzimtoti!
