Top Gear hosts race to build electric cars

Top Gear hosts will build and race electric cars.

THE third Top Gear Festival Durban is set to be an electric experience as the Top Gear trio of hosts is challenged to build their own racing cars.

Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May, accompanied by the mysterious Stig are back in Durban for the third annual Top Gear Festival on 21 and 22 June. The highlight of the stadium show, which already includes stunts, supercars, special guests and challenges, sees Clarkson, Hammond and May racing in electric cars they built themselves.

For all fans of the TV series, the Top Gear challenges set for the hosts by the producers are always something to look forward to and this is one of the most ambitious yet. During their stadium show, they will race each other in a drifting challenge for the bragging rights of the best racer and electric car designer.

This year’s festival will also feature a special tribute to successive generations of revolutionary performance cars, like the Ferrari Testarossa’s evolution into the Ferrari 599 GTO and a new film focusing on their most risky moments through the show’s history.

Another first for the festival is a performance by South African rapper, Jack Parow, who has Hammond a little nervous. “We’ve heard that a certain rapper called Jack Parow will be joining us in the Moses Mabhida Stadium this year, although know one’s told us quite what he’ll be up to, I for one am intrigued to know what he’s going to be doing in our show? I just hope he’s not expecting us to do any rapping,” said Hammond.
