EDITORIAL: Kudos to Lions on 50 years of Gathering

Most events on Toti's calendar are in their infancy in comparison to this mammoth feat, and it is a testament to the fortitude of the service club, which manages and runs the event.

AMANZIMTOTI Lions Club has done a sterling job in overseeing the sustained growth of the Highland Gathering for 50 years.
Most events on Toti’s calendar are in their infancy in comparison to this mammoth feat, and it is a testament to the fortitude of the service club, which manages and runs the event.
A small clutch of members make up the club and through their bloody mindedness, determined effort and commitment, the annual show is a must-do event which attracts visitors from across the city and indeed the province.
And for the 27 pipe bands and 240 Highland dancers who travel in from across the country to participate, it is a not-to-be-missed opportunity for them to showcase their skills.
This weekend is the final opportunity for the area to put its best foot forward and reap the benefits of yet another influx of visitors. April’s long weekends have undoubtedly help boost the profits of local businesses, as visitors from across the country have used the opportunity to get away from it all.
The letter heaping praise on the Toti lifeguards (see below) for their ‘beyond the call of duty’ efforts in helping a disabled Gauteng man onto the beach during his recent visit, bears testimony to the right kind of attitude that will keep visitors returning to our shores. Every positive experience that a visitor has while on holiday is a notch in Toti’s belt, and will help it keep afloat as one of the preferred holiday destinations along KZN’s sunshine coast for inland South Africans.
