Festival hailed a success

Music and rugby festival will be back next year.

From all accounts the inaugural Oppi Beach Rugby and Music Festival was a resounding success.

That’s the word from organiser, Jannie Pretorius and Sapphire Coast Toti Tourism (SCTT) chairman, Jacques van Schalkwyk.

“It was excellent,” said Jannie. “We were very happy. The response was great and the rugby, music and games on the beach were very well received.

Unfortunately the school rugby teams dropped us at the last minute for the beach rugby, but once we started playing, beachgoers joined in to help make the tournament a success.

The music festival was well supported. The weather played its part on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday, but unfortunately we had to cancel the Monday when the rain came. However, most of the visitors were travelling back home, so it wasn’t too bad.”

So impressed was the SCTT, it has asked Jannie and his team to return next year. “For the first year, it went well,” said Jacques. “Once we’ve had a debrief with Jannie, we want to ask them to return in December, perhaps not with the rugby and music festival, but definitely with the beach games, with the full festival returning next Easter.”
