Young athletes through to inter-provincial championships

Two young Umgababa Athletics Club members placed first in their respective categories at the KwaZulu-Natal Athletics Sub-Primary Youth Championships.

THE KwaZulu-Natal Athletics Sub-Primary Youth Championships were held at Kingspark in Durban recently, and two young Umgababa Athletics Club members saved the day for their team by both attaining first places.

The championships saw young athletes from all the province’s districts battle it out in various codes and respective age groups.

Andile Ngcobo placed first in the U9 turbo-javelin with a distance of 16.92m. He also ran the 600m U9 race in 02:02:40, placing 10th. Up-and-coming cross-country ace Mpilo Khomo placed first in the U11, 1 200m race, clocking 03:52:57.

Both athletes are through to the Inter-Provincial Sub-Primary Youth Championships which will take place in Secunda, Mpumalanga, on December 2.
