Rhythmic gymnastics is a captivating sport that blends gymnastics, dance and calisthenics. The individual and group routines incorporate various apparatus, including hoops, balls, ribbons, ropes and clubs.

Competing in levels 4 to 7, the 14 girls impressed the judges and spectators, bagging six bronze, five silver and one gold medal.

Cassandra Pretorius won gold and bronze at the South African Gym Games.

Jess Odendaal, the coach and club leader, said the competition was stiff with as many as 35 gymnasts in some age groups.

“The girls performed very well, and they enjoyed the competition and the experience of travelling to Cape Town. The judges really enjoyed it, too,” she said.
