The club’s Yolande Benade said that Danelle Pillay and Genevieve Martin opened the batting after winning the toss.

“Pillay batted right through the innings to get a total of 100 runs from 58 balls. Martin, unfortunately, got out on her first ball. Next in was Megan Powell who got 96 runs from 65 balls,” she said.

In the second innings, ACC came in to bowl. Powell took the first wicket and then went on to get another two with 13 runs. Benade said their other two bowlers, Iqra Khan (2/16) and Pillay (3/18), brought it home with ACC bowling UKZN out for only 84 runs.

The first team got their KZN Castle Premier T20 campaign off to a winning start with an away match against UKZN in the morning.

The club’s scribe, Peter Lonie, said that after being asked to bat first, ACC scored 177/3 in their 20 overs with the bulk of the runs coming from the bats of Gareth Lonie (57 not out), Luc Kanda (57) and Jarryd Michaux (45).

“Needing to defend 177 and with the ball in hand, ACC were immediately on the front foot when Rob Ackermann claimed a wicket with the first ball of UKZN’s innings. After a flurry of runs from UKZN, wickets fell at regular intervals, leaving UKZN 137 all out in the 20th over, handing victory to ACC by 40 runs. Pick of the Toti bowlers was Muhammad Khan (2/15), Michaux (2/17) and Dylan Labuschagne (2/32). Dale Kinsey claimed four catches behind the stumps,” he said.

In the afternoon home game against Chatsworth United, ACC scored 126/3 before rain interrupted play in the 19th over. With a reduced target, Chatsworth United reached 47/1 in six overs, winning by nine wickets on the Duckworth-Lewis method. Labuschagne took ACC’s only wicket.
