Amanzimtoti rugby players to represent KZN

Thirty-six players from the Amanzimtoti Youth Rugby Club were selected for the KZN Duikers team and will compete at this year's inter-provincial tournament.

AMANZIMTOTI Youth Rugby Club has 36 players and three coaches who have been selected to represent the KZN Duikers at this year’s inter-provincial tournament (IPT).

The club’s chairperson and U14 KZN Duikers coach, Anton Labuschagne, said the Duikers, which is part of the Club Sharks side, will compete against the Blue Bulls, Lions and Valke during the school holiday.

“KZN is hosting this year, with two teams per age group (U13 to U18): the Duikers and Duikers Invitational teams,” he said.

A total of 49 players participated in tournaments in July, showcasing their talent in hopes of making the teams. Out of them, 36 were selected to represent the province.

“I’m so proud of our boys and coaches for this achievement. It’s really amazing to see how much talent we have in our hometown,” he said.

The tournament will be held at Kuswag Skool from September 23 to 28, with four different regions competing to be the best.

The two coaches to join Labuschagne are Dirk Smit (U14 KZN Duikers Invitational) and Meluleki Lugayeni (U15 KZN Duikers Invitational).

The selected players per age group and team:

U13 KZN Duikers: Japheth Onwuama, Wandile Miya, Luyanda Makhanya, Blessing Mndaba and Kai Bester

U13 KZN Duikers Invitational: RW de Goede, Tristen Helberg, Jordan Swanepoel and Damien Grove.

U14 KZN Duikers: Okuhle Kubheka, Minqwano Bulana, Olwenkosi Dumakude, Jaco Els, Ruben Smit, Sebbie Janse van Rensburg, Mongi Nxumalo and Omphile Sikhakhane.

U14 KZN Duikers Invitational: David-John White.

U15 KZN Duikers: Cameron Kruger and Sbani Makhanya.

U15 KZN Duikers Invitational: Tristin Labuschagne, Connor Da Camara, Sibusiso Chapi and Murillo Jacobs.

U16 KZN Duikers: Thulasiwe Khuzwayo, Shawn Schlebusch, Endinakho Gogobala and Tristan Swart.

U16 KZN Duikers Invitational: Jaiden Laidlaw and Rikus de Klerk.

U18 KZN Duikers: Synjion Quintal and Enoch Tshasuma.

U18 KZN Duikers Invitational: Shaun Hawkins and Ernest Ugochukwa.
