She shone in her debut for the senior team on September 16, when she made an impressive diving catch to dismiss Pakistan’s opening batter, Muneeba Ali. She helped South Africa win the match by 10 runs.

After the Pakistan leg is concluded, Naidu and her team will head to the United Arab Emirates for the Women’s T20 World Cup.

Team captain Laura Wolvaardt described the 18-year-old Naidu as an exciting player who has a bright future in the game.

“I faced her a couple of times in the nets, and I thought she had good control for such a young leg spinner. Very exciting for the future, and I hope she gets as much game time as she can,” said Wolvaardt.

She added that she was also hopeful that the T20 series against Pakistan would help finalise the team of 11 for the World Cup, given the valuable match experience it will provide.

Naidu’s past achievements include being named into the KwaZulu-Natal U19 Girls’ Team, being named Player of the Season in the 2019 KZN Cricket Awards, and being the first girl to be selected for the Durban South U13 Boys’ Cricket.

In the World Cup, South Africa is placed in Group B, alongside England, Bangladesh, Scotland and the West Indies.
