Amanzimtoti blackball pool player selected for SA team

Theo Moodley hopes to, with the support of the community, represent South Africa at the 2024 Hawley Cup in England. To make his dream possible, he requires sponsorship.

THEO Moodley, a blackball pool player, is set to fulfil a major dream by representing South Africa at the 2024 Hawley Cup in Bridlington, England.

The Amanzimtoti resident has been selected in the men’s category as a manager and player at the Blackball International event, which runs alongside the world championships from October 11 to 20.

Moodley has been playing competitively for five years and has represented KwaZulu-Natal twice at nationals. This year, his team received second place and qualified.

“Playing and managing teams for my province and achieving other accolades along the way was great until I got the call to represent my country on the international stage. I remember the days I prayed for this opportunity – it’s a dream come true. Being a manager of your country is one of the most special moments in one’s life. Not only will I get to manage my country but I’ll also be a part of the game play,” he said.

Unfortunately, Moodley said they are not sponsored and have to self-fund their trips, which makes competing expensive and difficult.

The trip costs around R43 000 and includes travel, accommodation, attire, visa application and so forth.

To help make his dream a reality, consider donating towards his trip or offering sponsorship by contacting Theo Moodley on 083 386 486.
