Winklespruit bowling green a hive of activity during weekend tournaments

This weekend (July 6) will see Winklespruit Bowling Club's women's teams compete against Firwood Bowling Club at 13:00.

A GREAT week of fun in the sun on the bowling green was enjoyed by players from Winklespruit, Amanzimtoti, Wentworth and Durbanville Cape Town. Two fully packed tournaments provided great skills and spectator viewing to the delight of the players.

In the men’s 2-4-2, stiff competition was seen on all the rinks, however, Gert Lombard partnered by Tommy Maritz, ultimately pulled off the win. The runners-up were Jeff van Belkum partnered by Barrie de Wee. A second session win was achieved by Hans de Waal partnered by Adrian Morrison, and the 100 board was won by Fred Welch.

A packed green accommodated the mixed nominated trips on Saturday. The tournament provided great skills by players dressed in the various club colours. A great win went to Elmarie Young partnered by Nigel Ryder and Brian Cox. The second session went to Lorna Sourgen partnered by Barry Hilton and George Cormack. The 100 board was won by Gary Ninow.

Squad training for the Port Natal club league was concluded with the teams showing great enthusiasm ready to challenge the various clubs. High profile matches with the best of each club can be seen on the Winkle bowling green at 50 Gus Brown Road, Warner Beach.

July 6 will see the Winkle women’s teams compete against Firwood Bowling Club at 13:00. Two Winkle men’s league teams will compete against teams from Firwood Bowling Club and Le-Domaine Bowling Club on Sunday at 09:00. Several similar tournaments will be held on July 20.
