Amanzimtoti athletes set new personal bests in race

Members of Run Walk For Life (RWFL) Amanzimtoti thoroughly enjoyed their 10km race on April 28, at the Durban International Marathon, which started from Suncoast Casino.

FOUR members of Run Walk For Life (RWFL) Amanzimtoti recently took on the 10km Durban International Marathon, with Ingrid Barlow completing her first of many.

The event, on April 28, hosted by the Phantane Athletic Club, saw runners choose between the 42km and 10km races, which also incorporated the 2024 ASA National 42.2km. Both races finished at Mabhida People’s Tunnel, with the marathon starting on Prospecton Road and the 10km at Suncoast Casino.

According to a statement by RWFL Amanzimtoti, the members had an absolutely amazing morning. “A great race experience from beginning to end. Next year, we’ll all be there. Well done – it seems like running on the M4 freeway got you hitting new speeds – we had some personal bests, too.”

Barlow, who joined RWFL last year as a means of living a healthier lifestyle, completed the 10km in a personal best time of 01:04:44.

“This was my first of many Durban International Marathons. I was in high spirits all day as I had a goal in mind: knock one minute off my previous 10km finish time. To my surprise, I beat my personal best by two minutes. The entire day, from registration to the finish line, was just wow. There was also so much support and camaraderie along the way,” she said.
