“It’s a new record for the race, beating the previous record of 780. It was also the return of the race since Covid-19,” said Reddy.

PVAC had cheer zones along the route to support and motivate the runners. Reddy added that it was perfect running conditions weather-wise leading to fast times and many personal bests by runners.

AAC’s Liesl Fourie, congratulated two of its members for earning podium places. Thierry Pletinckx, who ran the 21.1km, came first in his age category in a time of 01:26:58. Irene Bohmer, who took on the 10km walk, came second in the women’s division in a time of 01:13:58.

Bohmer, one of the club’s very fast walkers, said it was a race she would definitely do again. “The route was reasonably flat, so you had to push yourself the whole time. Even though it was an overcast day, the humidity was quite high. Overall, it was an enjoyable race, and one I’ll do again,” she said.

Reddy thanked the president of the South African Medical Association (SAMA), Dr Mzukisi Grootboom and Jonsson Workwear as well as PVAC for making it a successful race weekend.
