Combat Coaching athletes dominate their opponents at Ground Quest

CombatCoaching.com secured three gold medals, six silver and six bronze at the Ground Quest tournament.

HARD work and dedication paid off for 25 athletes from CombatCoaching.com in Doonside who obtained 15 medals from the Ground Quest tournament recently.

Ground Quest is a submission-grappling tournament for all MMA (mixed martial arts), BJJ (Brazilian jiu-jitsu), judo and wrestling athletes of all ages, genders and experience levels.

The platform allows all to show that their skills have improved and to test themselves against the best and claim the gold. The event had over 100 athletes and hosted more than 250 matches.

CombatCoaching.com’s coach Morné Swanepoel said there are limited opportunities for KwaZulu-Natal athletes to compete, compared to other provinces, so Ground Quest, held in Durban, is gaining momentum and growing with every tournament.

“Our team has been the dominating force at the tournament for several years now,” he said.

The team secured three gold medals, six silver and six bronze at the tournament. “Even though I was overseas conducting international workshops, my team did exceptionally well, winning the most places and medals on the day. What makes me more proud is the way my team carries themselves on and off the mat – with respect and humbleness,” said Swanepoel.

The next big event is his son and professional fighter, Bradley Swanepoel’s EFC bout against rising star Danie Swart in Johannesburg on March 7.
