Runners competed in the Rolando Hillcrest Marathon to improve on their personal best times and qualify for the Two Oceans and Comrades Marathons.

TWENTY-NINE members of Amanzimtoti Athletic Club (AAC) took part in the Rolando Hillcrest Marathon on February 11.

The race, hosted by the Hillcrest Villagers Athletic Club, includes a 21.1km and 42.2km event. According to a statement, it is a long-standing and popular fixture on the athletics calendar.

“It is run on a two-lap course – 21.1km is one lap – through Hillcrest and the beautiful leafy suburb of Winston Park. The course is testing, with a long descent into Winston Park and then a gradual climb back into Hillcrest,” it read.

This year, the race incorporates the 2024 KZNA Provincial Marathon Championships and is both a Two Oceans Marathon and Comrades Marathon qualifier.

Amanzimtoti Athletic Club’s Liesl Fourie congratulated the 29 members who completed the half and full marathon. “We were blessed with some perfect running weather today. Some got their personal best, some their qualifier and some struggled but still finished. Well done to Irene Bohmer and Dev Oberholzer on your podium finishes,” she said.
