Romashan Pillay (19), an all-rounder from Athlone Park, was a Westville Boys’ High School matric learner last year. He will receive his results today, (January 19), the same day South Africa faces West Indies in the opening match at JB Marks Oval in Potchefstroom.

Pillay’s dedication to the game saw him captain the provincial U11 team in 2016. He was kitted out in Protea colours for the first time in 2023 when he was selected into the South African U19 team that toured Bangladesh for a five-match, 50-over series.

South Africa’s convenor of selectors for U19s, Patrick Moroney, congratulated Pillay and other players who were selected by Cricket South Africa.

“This group of young cricketers has demonstrated exceptional abilities and potential. We have full confidence in their capabilities and are excited to see them compete at the highest level, especially with the added pride of playing in front of a home crowd,” said Moroney.

The games will be split between Gauteng, North-West, Eastern Cape, Northern Cape, and Free State. South Africa is in Group B alongside England, Scotland and West Indies.
