Toti athlete braves the heat at Durban Runner Challenge

Amanzimtoti Athletic Club's club captain, Warren Gibson, was one of many members that took part in the race.

WARREN Gibson was one of many Amanzimtoti Athletic Club members who took on the 10km/21.1km Durban Runner Challenge in humid weather conditions, on November 26.

Gibson, the club captain, said the 10km race started at the Kings Park Athletic Stadium, continued down to Blue Lagoon, along the promenade, and then returned to the start. Those who ran the half-marathon ran the route twice.

“The conditions were warm and very humid as Durban weather is. I completed the 21.1km race in a time of 01:38:28. I didn’t have a goal time in mind as it was my first race since completing my sixth Sani Stagger two weeks in Lesotho,” he said.

The Sani Stagger is a festival of running with two road events (42.2km and 21.1km) and two trail events (38km and 21km). All events take place within the southern area of the internationally renowned Maloti Drakensberg World Heritage Site, and large swathes of this iconic wilderness are traversed.

Gibson is currently preparing for the 15km Christmas Challenge in Westville this Sunday.
