All-round wins for Amanzimtoti Cricket Club

The club's third, first and veterans team were victorious against the visiting sides last weekend.

THE Amanzimtoti Cricket Club’s (ACC) third, first and veterans teams secured the win in various home games on November 4 and 5.

The third team:

The third team hosted Simplex Reservoir Hills Crimson Clares Cricket Club on Toti 2 on Sunday, in a 30-over-per-innings match.

The visitors batted first and scored 209 all out in 27 overs with Kevin Thöle being the pick of the Toti bowlers with 4 wickets. Skipper Bradley Naidoo bagged three wickets, and Yuvershan Moodley, Hayden van der Westhuizen and Clive O’Reilly bagged a wicket apiece.

The club’s scribe, Peter Lonie, said chasing 210 to win, ACC’s opening pair of Jarred Chetty and Stephan Hennop got Toti’s innings off to a good start with Hennop finding the boundary regularly.

“Chetty was out for 18 with the score on 60, but it was Hennop’s day, and he powered his way to 100 and beyond. Hennop and Sifiso Mkhonofane saw ACC across the line, reaching the target of 210 runs in the 26th over,” he said.

ACC’s third team won by 8 wickets; Kevin Thöle scored 4/34, Bradley Naidoo 3/37, Stephan Hennop 141*, Sifiso Mkhonofane 17* and Jarred Chetty 18.

The first team:

The first round of the KZN Castle Premier League got underway on Sunday with ACC’s first team hosting Rhythm DHSOB Cricket Club at the Toti Oval.

The visitors won the toss and elected to take the field. Toti opening batsmen, Luc Kanda and Gareth Lonie, set about building the innings, seeing off the new ball as well as negotiating the 10-over power play.

Lonie said an outstanding opening partnership finally came to an end with the score on 128 when Kanda was dismissed for a well-played 64.

“Dale Kinsey joined Lonie, and the two set about building the next partnership of 81 runs before Kinsey was dismissed with the home side’s score on 209. Dillon Bryan and Lonie took ACC’s total to 246/3 with Lonie dismissed off the last ball of the 50th over for a well-played 106,” he said.

Chasing 247 to win, DHSOB got off to a steady start against the pace bowling of Toti opening bowlers, Luc Jacobs and Mo Khan.

Lonie said, “Dylan Labuschagne struck in the 16th over, and a run-out from Labuschagne had the visitors’ 2 wickets down before they had reached 100. The third wicket fell to a fantastic caught-and-bowled by Mo Khan. The spin of Labuschagne, Sheldon Maistry and Lonie accounted for the next 6 wickets, leaving DHSOB 194/9 at the end of their 50 overs.”

ACC’s first team won by 52 runs; Gareth Lonie scored 106(145), Luc Kanda 64(93), Dale Kinsey 38(51), Dillon Bryan 21*(15), Sheldon Maistry 3/23, Gareth Lonie 2/33, Dylan Labuschagne 2/38 and Mo Khan 1/20.

The veterans’ team:

The veterans got their KZN Castle Veterans League campaign off to a winning start on Saturday when they hosted Silver Saints Cricket Club’s veterans at the Toti Oval.

Silver Saints veterans won the toss and elected to bat first. They scored 127/8 in their allotted 30 overs. Lonie said Johan van Niekerk bagged 3 scalps and Bennie Benade and Leon van der Westhuizen two wickets apiece.

“Chasing 128 to win, the two Toti openers got the home side off to a good start with Marc Shepard and Van Niekerk scoring at more than a run-a-ball. Both openers were dismissed with the score on 59, and despite 2 more wickets for the visitors before the score reached 100, the home side reached their required target in the 19th over,” he said.

ACC’s veterans won by 4 wickets: Johan van Niekerk scored 3/17, Bennie Benade 2/15, Leon van der Westhuizen 2/27, Marc Shepard 27(20) and Johan van Niekerk 28(18).
