Amanzimtoti rugby teams victorious in final matches

The first and second team are now through to the quarter-finals which take place at Hutchison Park this Saturday, September 2.

AMANZIMTOTI Rugby Club’s (ARC) second and first teams were victorious in the final matches of the club season at Hutchison Park recently.

Club captain Michael Mthethwa said supporters of ARC witnessed dominant performance by the senior sides during the home games, in the final league matches of the season.

The two teams went head-to-head with the men from Harlequins Rugby Club on The Bluff. “In the first match of the day, the boys from Harlequins’ second team were met by a no-nonsense-taking Toti side, who would outplay and defeat the Quins 50–0,” said Mthethwa.

Stand-out individual performances were delivered in the forwards by Johan De Goede and in the backs by Tendai Dhliwayo.

Mthethwa said, “In the second match of the day, the crowd were left in awe by Tsegofatso ‘Speedy’ Ramaloko’s dazzling steps, dancing his way through defenders, while ‘big’ Mike Gibbley continued to terrorise the opposition with his menacing carries, with club veteran Mike Uppink scoring an inspirational hat trick.”

Toti’s first team, made up of youth and senior players, beat Harlequins’ first team 40–21.

“Following the conclusion of the first division league matches, the boys from Amanzimtoti will now shift their attention to the Junior Murray Cup and Keith Parkinson Cup quarter-finals which will be hosted at the Toti Rugby Club on September 2,” said Mthethwa.

The games are as follows: Second teams: Hillcrest Villagers vs South Coast Warriors at 13:00 and Amanzimtoti vs Kokstad at 14:30; First teams: Hillcrest Villagers vs South Coast Warriors at 16:00 and Amanzimtoti vs Kokstad at 17:30.
