Few weeks left to enter the richest race in South Africa

Get ready for an electrifying competition as elite runners gear up to compete on the big day.

EXCITEMENT is building for the third edition of the Hollywoodbets Durban 10km, which is scheduled for Sunday, September 3.

The saying, ‘third time’s a charm’, certainly rings true for the country’s runners as this race has now become the most financially rewarding 10km event in the nation.

The prize purse has increased to an impressive R342 500, marking a substantial increase from the previous year’s figure of R187 000.

The first male and female runners to cross the finish line will each secure an amazing R35 000. Second place will earn R27 500, while third place will take home R25 000.

Among them is Hollywood Athletic Club’s Irvette van Zyl, who has been turning heads with recent victories in the Totalsports Women’s Day 10km and a top 10 finish in the 10km Spar Series, showcasing her unwavering form and resolute aim to secure victory.

Also hailing from the Hollywood AC stable, Cian Oldknow and Tayla Kavanagh, who have shown a remarkable performance in the 2023 athletics season so far, promise talent to look out for in the future of road running and the Hollywoodbets Durban 10km.

Adding to the excitement, former Hollywoodbets Durban 10km champion Collen Mulaudzi is set to be part of the star-studded line-up – with fellow club runner Matthews Leeto, who is in great form from his recent victory at the Foskor half-marathon.

Crowd favourite Gerda Steyn, known as the ‘smiling assassin’, makes a return to Durban after her world-record-breaking performance at the Comrades Marathon a few months ago.

Hollywoodbets and the Hollywood Athletics Club are truly setting a standard in road running. “Our mission is clear – to paint the streets of Durban purple. We have opened entries to 5 000 runners and have sold over half in the first two weeks. This says a lot about the excitement for this year’s race,” said Hollywood Athletics Club President Morgan Shandu.
