Kingsway High to host SPAR KZN Fast 5s Netball Challenge

The South Coast Regional, which will be held on August 12, invites teams from the area to participate in the Fast 5s format.

THE South Coast Regional, hosted by Kingsway High School, is one of seven regionals in this year’s SPAR KZN Schoolgirls’ Fast 5s Netball Challenge.

The tournaments’ publicist, Sophie Thompson, said the challenge, which is in its third year, heads to seven regions around KwaZulu-Natal, inviting teams from those areas to participate in this exciting Fast 5s format.

“Much of the worldwide netball focus is on South Africa in the lead-up to this year’s Netball World Cup, and with our SPAR Proteas national team pushing the limits in their phenomenal performances, the local youngsters will be eager to be on the courts imitating their national netball heroes,” she said.

Two tournaments will take place in Women’s Month – first, the South Coast Regional hosted by Kingsway High School on August 12, then the Kokstad Regional at Kokstad College on August 26.

The fourth regional heads to Westville Girls’ High School where they will welcome teams for the Durban Central Regional on September 2.

Heading north, the tournament moves to Pionier Hoërskool with teams participating in the Northern KZN Regional on September 16. The final two regions take place closer to Durban, with the Midlands Regional getting underway at Voortrekker Hoërskool on October 14, and the Durban Coastal Regional held at Danville Park Girls’ High School on October 21.

Thompson said the success over the last two challenges (2019 and 2021) has rippled throughout KZN, and as a result, schools and learners consider this a highlight on their school sports calendar.

“The challenge offers the opportunity for players to have access to competitive play with their peers, and to be seen by coaches and selectors either on the court or via live stream,” she said.

All games will be live-streamed on the SuperSport Schools’ website and mobile application.
