Shital Dhookie said being the first woman to lead the organisation is an awesome achievement which she is not taking for granted.

“This is such an honour. For a woman to be holding the title of chairperson of a soccer academy means that women can run any show with respect, pride and honour. This is a way of empowering all women out there who are passionate about sports,” said Dhookie.

The Isipingo native’s love for the sport started at an early age when she would watch her father, Ashok Maharaj, play the game.

“I want to extend my sincere thanks to every member of the academy for entrusting me with this position,” she added.

The academy’s deputy chairperson, Ronnie Vengan, said Dhookie is a good leader with a sincere commitment and dedication to the game. “We at the academy are confident she will make us all proud,” said Vengan.
