New home for water-polo enthusiasts on the South Coast

The academy is the first of its kind on the South Coast.

YOUNG water-polo enthusiasts took to the water like ducks as the Elite Water-polo Academy in partnership with Aqua Swimming Academy launched its South Coast branch in St. Winifred’s on Saturday, January 29.

The academy is owned by Donn Stewart, who is also the head coach. Donn is a retired Olympian water-polo player, who represented South Africa in many international events.

Stacey-Lee Hooper has been named head coach for the South Coast academy. Stacey-Lee’s accomplishments include being captain for the KwaZulu-Natal women’s squad for four years during the 10 years she spent with the team. She represented South Africa between 2000 and 2006, and is also a fully qualified swim instructor. Established in 2016 in Durban, Elite has produced Springbok and provincial players.

“The partnership between Aqua Swimming Academy and Elite Water-polo Academy will allow for more opportunities for our children on the South Coast. Water-polo is one of the fastest growing sports in our country and together, Aqua and Elite will off er access to leagues and matches. This will ensure our children are exposed to the highest levels of the sport,” said Jessica Lowings, owner and head coach of Aqua Swimming Academy.
