4 Amanzimtoti bowlers earned a spot in the winning district side

Doreen Salmond, Susan Nel, Nicky Stirzaker, and Tokkie de Kock won the KZN quadrangular bowls championship.

IT was the annual KZN quadrangular bowls championship last weekend which was a tough competition between teams from the four bowls districts of the province – Port Natal Bowls, Kingfisher Bowling Association, Natal Inland Bowling Association and KZN Country Bowls.

Each district fields four sides of eight players for men and women and the competition lasts for two days, so it is a real test of the depth of talent in the district.

Amanzimtoti Bowling Club (ABC) was delighted that four of its members were part of the Port Natal Bowls (PNB) women’s side that went on to win. Well done to Doreen Salmond (veterans’ side), Susan Nel (open side), Nicky Stirzaker (B side), and Tokkie de Kock (invitational side). Toti might be a small town, but there is a lot of sport talent.

Only one club honours board competition took place last week, and that was a women’s novice singles in which Lesley Levy beat Carmen Maritz.

In the men’s monthly mutton competition, the winners were Greg McLeod, Clive Frank, Mike Roberts and Brian Masters. Alec Stirzaker, Phil Whitton, Keith West and Mike Pitchers were runners-up, and the second session went to Eric Klopper, Carl van Heerden, Vince Marriott and Martin Birch.

The women’s mutton winners were Pamela Chalder-Royle, Jenny Delport, Dot Liebetrau and Adrienne Robbins. Runners-up were Vera Broskie, Dawn Schauer, Sue Blount and Jacqui Birch. The second session went to Julie Sutherland, Elmarie Young, Amanda Ninow and Cathy Badenhorst.

Phil Whitton won the 100 board at TGIF. Dave Patton was not present to win the attendance draw and Leigh Callaghan could not find the right key in the key draw. Therefore the jackpots will be R150 for the attendance draw and R3 400 for the key draw with 32 keys to choose from next week.

Birthday greetings for next week go to Karen Glover, Vince Phaal and Colin Spence, and good bowling to Shaun Fagan, Hilary Lindsay and Lesley Levy playing in the next rounds of the PNB novice singles championship.
