Lawn bowls kicked off at Winklespruit Bowling Club after the festive break

Members were eager to return to the green for a game of bowls.

WINKLESPRUIT Bowling Club recently reopened its doors and green after a short break over the festive holidays.

The first event on the calendar for the New Year was social bowls which was well supported by club members and visitors.

The club hosted the Victory Spar Winkle Women’s Trips and the players contested in extremely hot conditions, but that didn’t stop the high standard of play or the enjoyment level.

The overall winners on the day were Estelle van der Merwe, Elaine Critchlow and Lorna Sourgen. Second session winners were Julie Sutherland, Susan Nel and Amanda Ninow.

The 100 board and the mystery prize where both won by Susan Nel. A big thank you to the sponsor, Victory Spar, those who supplied plates of snacks and to Norma Raath. Lastly to Di Kruger for coordinating the competition.

The Clear Waters Spur 2-4-2 was also played and again the very hot weather took its toll on the players throughout the morning’s play. The competition came down to the wire with some very tight scores to determine the winners.

The overall winners were Paul Hedley and Alan Raubenheimer with a 4+14 on percentage against Piet du Toti and Estelle van der Merwe. Second session winners were Piet du Toti and Estelle van der Merwe also by percentage.

The 100 board was won by Stella Erasmus. Thanks to Sylveigh Ananiadis and Rob Hilton for helping Norma Raath at the bar. Also, thanks to the sponsor, Clear Waters Spur, for its continued support and Barrie de Wee for coordinating the competition.
