Festive season plans rolling out at Amanzimtoti Bowling Club

Amanzimtoti Bowling Club members will kick start the festive season with a Turkey Day competition this weekend.

AS Amanzimtoti Bowling Club (ABC) gears up for its festive season games, mother nature gave a foretaste of the summer heat on Sunday, November 28.

Despite that the members had fun on the greens playing the monthly men’s and women’s 4s. Taking home the prizes for the women were Julie Sutherland, Tokkie de Kock, Adrie van Dyk and Cathy Badenhorst in first place; the mixed Umkomaas/ Winklespruit team of Avril Smith, Di Kruger, Kate Morris and Trish Tweedie in second place; and the novice team of Toni Roberts, Karen Glover, Carmen Maritz and Jaylene Fagan winning the second session.

In the men’s game with two resounding wins, were Greg McLeod, Clive Frank, Mike Roberts and Brian Masters. Linden Cooper, Alec Nel, Innocent Sithole and Ray Robinson were runners-up, and Alec Stirzaker, Phil Whitton, Keith West and Mike Pitchers took the second session.

The Christmas festivities will start with the Turkey Day competitions on Sunday, December 5, with great prizes to be won, so get your name in if you haven’t already done so. This will be followed by the annual men versus women competition on the public holiday, Thursday, December 16, which is always a hotly contended event with loads of friendly rivalry going on, and then the women dress up and let their hair down on their Cherry Bell Day on Saturday, December 18.

Members are also reminded to take their contributions for the Christmas hamper which will be drawn at the men versus women’s competition.

This week’s TGIF winners were Glen Scorgie, who won the 100 board and Peter Callaghan, who won the attendance draw, but donated the winnings back to the club. Lofty van Tonder’s name came out in the key draw, but he was not able to find the right key to open the box.

Prizes next week will therefore be R100 for the attendance draw and R1 250 for the key draw with 39 keys to choose from.

Thanks go to Phil Whitton who ran a Saint Andrew’s Day quick quiz on all things Scottish after TGIF.
