Greg McLeod and Susan Nel are the new champions at Amanzimtoti Bowling Club

Susan Nel went on to beat Amanda Ninow in the finals to take the championship, having given away very few shots along the way.

IT was a busy week at Amanzimtoti Bowling Club (ABC) with the club’s men and women’s open singles being finalised and three monthly competitions played.

The semi-finalists in the men’s open singles were Phil Whitton versus Carl van Heerden, and Greg McLeod versus Brian Masters. The two who won got through to the finals were Greg and Phil, and after a riveting battle between the two talented players that went right down to the wire, Greg managed to keep the lead to become the men’s club champion once again.

In the semi-finals of the women’s open singles, Amanda Ninow and Susan Nel beat Dawn Schauer and Nicky Stirzaker respectively. Susan then went on to beat Amanda in the finals to take the championship, having given away very few shots along the way.

Congratulations to both Greg and Susan for the amazing bowls played during the tournament.

Congratulations to Shaun Fagan and Kevin Lindsay, who are now through to the third round of the Berea men’s novice pairs after winning their first two rounds on Saturday, September 18.

In the women’s monthly trips the winners were Nicky Stirzaker, Tokkie de Kock and Jackie Holdrick, with Joan van Rensburg, Elbie Fourie and Toni Roberts getting second session prize. In the men’s 2-4-2, played despite the rain, the winners were Ian Crouch and Phil Whitton. Martin Birch and Kevin Lindsay were runners-up, and Greg McLeod and Adie Fuller won the second session.

The weekend game was the Fury multi-franchise mixed 4’s and the winners by a large margin were Julie Sutherland, Ann and Phil Whitton and Amanda Ninow.

Second place went to Greg McLeod, Clive Frank, Tokkie de Kock and Barry Bush, while the second session was won by Leonie Mills, Shaun Fagan, Danny Ross and Jaylene Fagan.

At TGIF, the winner of the 100 board was Heather Cooper. Jenny Rautenbach was not present to win the attendance draw, so that will go up to R200. Kathy

Sharp’s number was drawn in the key draw, but she did not manage to find the right key, so the jackpot will go up to R7 525 with 18 keys left.

The club hopes to see all its members at the AGM and prize giving to be held on Friday, September 24, at 10:00 for 11:00 start.

The only birthday greeting for this week goes to Innocent Sithole.
