Eight Amanzimtoti Bowling Club members compete in KZN champs

The winter weather played havoc with the games during the week, with the men’s trips and burgers and bowls having to be cancelled.

One of the big events in bowls took place from 5 to 7 June.

It was the KZN men’s open singles hosted by Kingfisher District on the lower South Coast of Natal.

Eight Amanzimtoti Bowling Club (ABC) members were among the 162 players from around the province who entered. The first round was played on a round robin format with three players per section in 54 sections.

ABC’s Greg McLeod, Barry Bush, Carl van Heerden and Dion Audie were among those who won their sections on Saturday, but only Dion remained in the competition after Sunday’s knock-out phase and went through to the quarter finals, where he lost to Wayne Rittmuller of Stella Park Bowling Club by a very narrow margin. Well done to him on getting so far and to all the Toti members who took part.

The second of the women’s drawn 4’s semi-finals was played on Saturday, 5 June. In a very close game Doreen Salmond and her team of Leonie Mills, Toni Roberts and Kathy Sharp were well up on the 15th end, but by the 19th end it was 19 all and Tokkie’s team of Jackie Holdrick, Dawn Schauer and Jaylene Fagan took the victory in the last two ends. Congratulations to them and good bowling in the finals on Saturday, 19 June.

The winter weather played havoc with the games during the week, with the men’s trips and burgers and bowls having to be cancelled.

The only game that was played was the women’s John Dory 2-4-2. Winning the game despite the cold conditions were Delysia Mitchley and Lesley Levy, with Julie Sutherland and Ann Whitton taking second prize. The second session went to Tokkie de Kock and Dawn Schauer.

Alec Stirzaker was the winner of the 100 board at TGIF and social member Ann Waterson’s name was drawn in the attendance draw, but as she was not present the prize will go up to R450 next week. Lofty van Tonder’s number was drawn in the key game, but unfortunately the right key remained elusive and so the jackpot will be R4 630 with 28 keys to choose from on Friday, 11 June.

Reminders for the week are league on Saturday, 12 June, the Pro10 game on Youth Day, Wednesday, 16 June, at 8.30am for 9 am, men’s 2-4-2 on Thursday, 17 June, and Drawn Trips on Friday, 18 June at 4pm.

The only member celebrating a birthday this week is Greg McLeod.
