Amanzimtoti bowlers play close contested games on the greens

ABC was delighted when four of their six remaining teams won through to the last 16 teams against the cream of the district.

IT was crunch time at Amanzimtoti Bowling Club (ABC) on Saturday, 10 April, for the women’s novice singles when the final two games of the round-robin series were played.

Both were very close games. Karen Glover surged into the lead against Lesley Levy and although Lesley made a last ditch effort to get to 20 all on the 20th end, she just couldn’t find that winning shot to clinch the deal and Karen won the game.

Cathy Badenhorst played a very close game against Jaylene Fagan and they were peeled on 18 shots on the 21st end, with Cathy finally managing to pull off a one shot win. These results put Hilary Lindsay, who had played an excellent campaign, at the top of the log to take the championship, edging out her sister, Lesley, into second place and in third by a shot difference was Cathy Badenhorst.

Congratulations to them and all the novices who were strong contenders.

Sunday, 11 April, saw rounds four and five of the Port Natal mixed pairs being played at Toti and Stella Park.

ABC was delighted when four of their six remaining teams won through to the last 16 teams against the cream of the district. Well played to the teams of Greg McLeod and Marion Crouch, Ian and Leonie Mills, Dion Audie and Jane Coetzee, and Adie Fuller and Amanda Ninow.

Good bowling to them in rounds six and seven on Sunday, 18 April, and the semi’s and finals on Sunday, 25 April, both of which will be played at ABC.

This will mean that the big chicks 4’s and the muttons 4’s will be rescheduled, watch the notice board for details.

In round one of the men’s inter-club league on Saturday, 10 April, all three Toti teams played at home. Amanzimtoti A beat Westville A 11 – 6; Amanzimtoti B beat Stella Park B 9,5 – 7,5; Amanzimtoti C beat Chatsworth A 11 – 1.

Rain interfered with the John Dory women’s 2-4-2 on Tuesday, 6 April, and only the first session was played. The winners were Leonie Mills and Hilary Lindsay, with runners-up being Amanda Ninow and Elmarie Young. Thanks to the sponsor for their continued generosity.

At TGIF the 100 board was won by Jackie Holdrick, but the attendance draw was not won as Heather Brown wasn’t there to collect. The prize will be R250 next week. Hilary Lindsay was unable to find the right key in the key draw, so the jackpot will be R2 130 with 36 keys to choose from on Friday, 16 April.

Birthday greetings go to Elsie Walker, Stella Erasmus, Sue Blount, Dawn Schauer, Keith Berry and Jeanne Alexander.
