IT wouldn’t be summer without the Hypersure mixed trips at Amanzimtoti Bowling Club (ABC).
Usually held in the evening under floodlight to avoid the heat, is a favourite among bowlers. However, once again Covid-19 has forced change and so this year it is being held on Sunday mornings over three weeks. Log leaders after the first two rounds are Heather Brown, Martin Birch and Trevor Zulch. Winners of the lucky draw were Amanda Ninow, Ian Crouch, Mike Groom, Barry Bush, Alan McGregor and John Hewgill.
Lockdown has obviously cut down on the number of people joining sports clubs everywhere and Toti is no different.
ABC was delighted to be able to enter seven players in the Port Natal novice singles – three men and four women. Unfortunately, the opposition proved a little too tough for the new bowlers this year with Lesley Levy, Hilary Lindsay and Jaylene Fagan dropping out in the first round and Karen Glover in the second round. The only man left standing was Shaun Fagan, who had progressed to the third round, but was knocked out at that point.
In the two ABC novice singles games played last week, husband and wife Kevin and Hilary Lindsay both dominated their games against Eric Gardner and Cathy Badenhorst respectively to take the wins.
The semi-finals of the men and women’s drawn fours and a men’s novice singles game will take place on Saturday, 6 March, at 1pm for 1.30pm and on Sunday, 7 March, there will be rounds three and four of the Hypersure mixed trips starting at 8.30am for 9am.
The lists are up for the men’s inter-club league starting on Saturday, 10 April, the Port Natal mixed pairs (closing date 5 March) and for the normal midweek games which have returned to their pre-lockdown schedule.
The R10 000 key draw took place and was won by a lucky member on Friday, 26 February. Birthday greetings are sent to Leonie Mills, Gary Wise and Celia Niederhoffer this week.
