Amanzimtoti runner eager for Comrades Marathon

He describes the Comrades Marathon has incredibly tough but highly rewarding.

The 2021 Comrades Marathon has been scheduled to take place on Sunday, 13 June. And local runner, Lindokuhle Mnqayi could not be more thrilled. He began running seven years ago and successfully completed four Comrades races. Lindokuhle was an athlete and played soccer in school, however after matriculating he began consuming alcohol frequently and soon lost interest in sport. He eventually decided he needed to better himself and began training again. He now has obtained several medals for successfully completing the Comrades Marathon. He scooped two silver, one Bill Rowan and one bronze medal. Impressively, he also participated in Ekiden Race in Japan where he represented South Africa. He is a member of Lovemore Bros Athletics Club and is former member of the Harlequins Harriers Athletics Club and Toyota Boshoku.

“I created a programme specifically for me. This helps me stay fit and active. It outlines the days that I am supposed to train and my rest days. Each day is different. On certain days I do pace training, training for heels and long runs. I try to train for two hours.”

He describes the Comrades Marathon has incredibly tough but highly rewarding.

“The middle is the most tough and challenging. When I reach this point, thoughts of quitting crosses my mind but I remember to keep going and to push myself. I love running.”

Lindokuhle does not have a special diet but tries to maintain a healthy balance. He hope to find a fitness coach to help him reach his goals.

“My message to the community is to try to lead a healthy lifestyle and to stay away from unnecessary things. I thank all those who have supported me, my friends, family and team.”

Lindokuhle is an animal lover and works at Amanzimtoti SPCA.
