Amanzimtoti woman reaches fitness goals

She started training three days a week and began progressing over time.

With two goals in mind, there was no stopping Debbie Fisher. The 41-year-old has been running with Run/ Walk for Life for the past year and when she first started the programme, she vowed to reach her fitness goal and purchase a pair of running shoes.   She recently celebrated her birthday and rather than receiving presents from her friends and family, they sponsored her money to purchase a pair of Kayanos to help with her balance.
Despite lockdown, Debbie managed to take on the Progressive Marathon, which is a six-day race compiling of 7km per day, two 6km trail runs and the Fit Slim Challenge.

“I used to run when I was younger, but after having children I stopped. I started gymming at work, but it wasn’t satisfying. When I started running I really enjoyed the social aspect. I could barely walk for 20 minutes.”

She started training three days a week and began progressing over time.

“During lockdown, I struggled to maintain balance and stay fit. Once I got back to work, I got back to my fitness journey.”

She encourages those who want to get fit and active to set small goals. “Start working towards your fitness goals and try to watch what you eat. “Thank you to my husband, Bruce and children, Alexis and Ciara, Graeme Saunders, Vee Pillay, Stephen Tlhapane and Thami Gumede for pushing me to do better. Thank you to everyone who contributed to my running shoes.” She hopes to complete a 10km race soon.
