Recovering addict enjoys run through Amanzimtoti

He described his stay in Amanzimtoti as one of the highlights of the marathon and said the community is amazing.

Recovering addict, Richard Harvery, 30, has committed himself to completing the Running for Recovery event and made a stop in Amanzimtoti on Monday, 16 November. He struggled to kick his drug addiction for several years and in honour of his sobriety milestone, he took on the marathon.  The eight day long event began at KwaDukuza and will end in Port Edward. He described his stay in Amanzimtoti as one of the highlights of the marathon and said the community is amazing.

“This has probably been the best experience of my whole life. This has been something that I dreamt about doing for a long time, I was just unable to because I relapsed quite a few times. It’s been awesome and the people have just been phenomenal. The Toti team is filled with so many funny characters.”

Richard also had one of best meals and milkshakes during his stay.

“I want to say thank you to everyone who sponsored me during this run. The purpose is to show people that addicts aren’t a waste of time and with just a little love and care we can change and become better people. “I want to inspire other addicts to become better while raising funds to help other addicts get better.”

The run from Toti to Scottburgh has been his favourite due to the beautiful scenery.
