Schroders take on Capital K

The Schroders have already entered for the Midmar Mile 2021.

Lynn and Lawrence Schroder took on the 2020 Capital K race at Midmar Dam under strict Covid-19 regulations recently.   The Capital K is a 1km swim held annually at the Midmar Dam in November and the retired couple had an unusual, but incredible experience.

“We camped up at the dam for the weekend and cycled over to the start of the race which was held on Sunday on the day before the race,” said the pair. Registration was simplified efficiently by downloading the Finishtime Passport App onto our phones, filling in our details and getting a QR code. On the day this code was scanned and our race numbers and chips presented to us before the race.”

“No spectators were allowed into the swimming demarcated area and we could only register an hour before our race and when the swimmers from the previous race had left the swimming area. There were six different races. We started at Munro Bay and ended at the normal finish for both the Capital K and the Mile. In this way social distancing was maintained. We were given masks which we discarded into a special bin as we started the race.”

The Schroders have already entered for the Midmar Mile 2021.

“A special tent was provided for our tagged bags with phones, glasses and other personal requirements to be safely kept while we were swimming. On completion of the race we were presented with our medals, a new mask and a goody bag of very welcome health products. Vendors selling refreshments and swimming gear were also not permitted to be in the swimming area as they usually are but were strategically positioned on the parking area where there was an excellent view of the swimming.  740 swimmers registered which is far fewer than in previous years but the organisers were very pleased to have this many very keen swimmers and to show that these sporting events can happen even with these strict Covid-19 regulations. We sincerely hope to be able to successfully take part in these two wonderful open water swimming events in the future.”
