Amanzimtoti Mambas tackle first MTB race

It was rewarding to see so many smiling faces once again.

After months of patiently waiting to be able to race again due to lockdown, Amanzimtoti Cycling Club’s (ACC) Mambas kitted up for the first race, which took place at the Illovo Country Club in Eston on Sunday, 25 October.

“The weather turned out to be very warm and this made it a tough ride, but an enjoyable one. It was rewarding to see so many smiling faces once again, as riders have not been able to race since lockdown was enforced,” said ACC chairman, Barry Walker.

All Covid-19 regulations were enforced on the day and the venue was only opened to riders, with no spectators permitted. No more than 500 riders per day were allowed and no late entries were accepted on race day. Social distancing and wearing of masks was enforced and riders were only allowed to remove their masks one minute before the start, but did not have to wear them during the race. However, once they crossed the finish line, they had to don them again.

Results of the 40km MTB race: Zach Humphries – 1.49.22; Jaco van Zyl – 2.06.48; Ashley Seiler – 2.11.06; Barry Walker – 2.12.20; Leanne Davidson – 3.11.07; Pam Smit – 3.11.12; Leigh Middlesbrough – 3.28.02; Peter du Plessis – 3.31.51; Colin Bedingfield – 3.54.17; Antonete Bedingfield – 3.54.18.
