Amanzimtoti teacher on a mission to complete triathlon

She recently bagged top spots in two mixed tandem competition, this month.

Grade 7 teacher, Lauren Symmonds who is committed to completing the Ironman Triathlon in the near future. In light of this, she embarks on a series of marathons and tandem races in order to prepare. Impressively, she managed to complete the Ironman 70.3 challenge and qualified for the world championship in France, last year. Her journey began with park runs and it was all ‘downhill’ from there.

She recently bagged top spots in two mixed tandem competition, this month. The fitness fanatic was also a swimmer in her youth and trains vigorously throughout the week.

Its all about balance for the 27-year-old who said, “My main objective through this all is just to have a healthy lifestyle. And hopefully inspire people around me and the learners whom I’m lucky enough to teach to just believe in themselves. People should keep chipping away at a goal because reality is everyone is scared to step out their comfort zones. It’s in this area where you grow and start to become what you once only had a dream of becoming.”

She is also currently training to take on the Comrades Marathon and the two Oceans Ultra Marathon. She hopes to create awareness for Childhood Cancer Foundation South Africa (CHOC) by running the Comrades Marathon in support of the organisation, because children is also a passion of hers.

“Training requires dedication, passion and a lot of sacrifice. I appreciate the support and encouragement from everyone who supports me. I would not be where I am today if I was not for them. My family, my supportive partner and fellow training buddies, it wouldn’t be possible without them and all their support, motivation and continuous faith and belief in me,” she added.

When she is not out training, she enjoys maintaining a healthy lifestyle and spending time on the beach with her dogs.
