Toti United competes in action-packed soccer league

The U13 game, which saw Bayview take on Mayville Classics, was a heated match in particular as the boys from both teams refused to back down without a fight and in the end drew 2-2.

IT was action galore when Bayview Sports Club hosted league matches as part of the Durban Central Local Football Association on Sunday, 18 August.

Hillcrest United, Toti United, Stella, Mayville Classics and Ashley United junior teams took on Bayview in five action-packed matches. The U13 game, which saw Bayview take on Mayville Classics, was a spirited clash, as both teams refused to back down without a fight and had to settle for a 2-2 draw.

Bayview coach, Mario Labuschagne admitted the game was intense, but said it’s always the case when they play Mayville, who are very good at passing the ball. “The Bayview boys knew they had to close down early and not give Mayville time to play on the ball. Mayville went up 1-0 in the first five minutes of the game, but then Bayview, with a run through by Chad Fynn, scored the equaliser just before half-time,” said Mario.

U8 Bayview Football Club striker Ky Watson moments before scoring a goal for his team.

The visitors pressed back in the second half and went ahead when a missed kick gave them the opportunity to lead 2-1. Bayview, never backing down, pushed back and once again scored an equaliser. “Bayview’s Chase Labuschagne and Caleb Haupt failed to seal the deal by two clear cut chances during the first and second halves of the match,” he said.

Having not yet beaten Mayville Classics this season and being knocked out by Mayville in the KO Cup a month ago, Bayview seemed quite determined to come out with positive results. However, with 10 minutes to go, a scuffle broke out between a Bayview and Mayville player. Mayville coach, Bongani Mlondo was not happy with the referee’s decision and pulled the team from the match.

Mayville Classics player Sisande Khawula is stopped marked by a strong Bayview defence from the back by Shae De Bruin and going for the ball is Chad Fynn.

“The referee asked Bongani to send his players back on the field to conclude the game, but he refused and the game was then called off. Despite the negatives, it was an intense game to watch and it’s always a pleasure playing against Mayville Classics, as the boys are pushed to their limits and they really show character and fighting spirit. I’m extremely proud of my Bayview U13 A team, as they continue to grow from strength to strength,” said a proud Mario.
